ORUZGAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – One Afghan Security Group member was killed and another wounded when an improvised explosive device detonated near a check point in the Oruzgan province Aug. 21.

The wounded ASG member received immediate treatment for his wounds on site and was then transported to a nearby coalition medical facility for further treatment.

The two ASG members were conducting a patrol to locate a security guard that had gone missing earlier that day. As the patrol approached the area where the security guard had gone missing; insurgents detonated an IED killing one ASG member and wounding the other.

This area has become a contested area for insurgents. Earlier last month, the Taliban attempted to kidnap the ASG commander at the same checkpoint.
