KABUL, Afghanistan - Nearly 300 Afghans peacefully demonstrated against the Taliban Aug. 27 near the village of Rahimkhel in the Andar District of Ghazni province.
A village elder told coalition forces that villagers were demonstrating against the Taliban for attacking their village the previous day. The group temporarily blocked traffic with burning tires near a marketplace. The demonstrators dispersed peacefully after several hours.
"This demonstration is an example of how the Afghan people have had enough of the insurgents and the death and destruction they bring to this land," said U.S. Air Force Col. James Dawkins, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director.
