KABUL - An Afghan and coalition security force detained several suspected insurgents in Kandahar province Friday searching for a Taliban commander and weapons expert.

The commander serves as the chief of staff for a former senior Taliban commander killed earlier this month in a coalition precision air strike.

The security force targeted a series of compounds in Kandahar district to search for the commander. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully and then secured the area. The joint force detained the suspected insurgents for further questioning after interviewing everyone at the scene.

The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children throughout the searches.
