KABUL – An Afghan and coalition security force detained several suspected insurgents, during the latest deliberate clearing operation against Haqqani Network safe havens in Orgun district over the past two nights.

The clearing operation focused on disrupting the Haqqani Network’s freedom of movement in an area used to stage the network’s attacks in eastern Afghanistan.

The security force went to several compounds around the villages of Shey Khan, Mohabbat Kowt, and Pircowti Kalay to search the area. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit buildings identified by intelligence sources and then cleared the areas peacefully. After questioning on the scene, the security force detained the suspected insurgents.

“The Haqqani Network continually seeks to establish strongholds in the provinces bordering Pakistan, facilitating the movement of foreign fighters, explosives and weapons into Afghanistan,” said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director. “The Afghan and coalition forces will continue to capture or kill these terrorists as they cross the border of Pakistan in an attempt to violently intimidate the Afghan people.”
