KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan parliamentary candidate and one other Afghan civilian were wounded following a grenade attack at the governor's compound in Ghazni City Sept. 2.

Moulana Abdul Rahman, an Afghan parliamentary candidate, was wounded when a grenade exploded near his office at approximately 1:30 p.m. Haji Gull, an anaesthesiology technician at Ghazni Hospital, was also injured in the blast.

The two were initially taken to Ghazni Hospital to receive medical treatment. Abdul Rahman and Gull were later transferred to Forward Operating Base Ghazni for further treatment.

"These senseless attacks will not derail the upcoming elections and will not dissuade Afghan citizens from choosing to serve their country by seeking an elected position within the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan," said Brig. Gen. Steve Townsend, deputy commanding general for Regional Command - East and Combined Joint Task Force - 101.

The Afghan National Police are investigating the incident.
