“This is probably the most stressful job I’ve had in my life,” said Sgt. Jeffery Golden.

Every day these men and women walk into the DFIP they have no idea what is going to happen next. These service members keep watch over some of the most dangerous men in the world, and they do it with pride.

There are days that they must face both physical and mental abuse, and still have the strength to turn the other cheek and drive forward. “This job changes every day, I just try to keep a smile on my face” said Spc. Brian Craycroft. “When something gets thrown at you, you just take a step back get cleaned up and go back to work.”

“The leadership takes care of us when stuff like that happens,” said Sgt. Edward Ashman. “There is really nothing you can do to get prepared for this job; no amount of training can get you ready for it.”

They realize that they may not be able to change all of the people they are guarding, but if they can help to reintegrate just one, it makes the job worthwhile. “We think we are making a difference with what we do here,” said Craycroft.

Along with their daily mission they also work with the Afghan National Army during their training. “The ANA pick things up really fast, we can show them something once and the next time they are doing it on their own,” said Ashman.

These professionals treat each detainee with respect and dignity, every day no matter what the job throws at them. Every day that they spend inside of the DFIP is just another one closer to the end of their deployment.
