KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan and coalition security force detained several individuals in Helmand province Sept. 3.

Acting on multiple intelligence sources and tips from local citizens, the combined force detained the insurgent target, and three other suspected traffickers, wanted for facilitating insurgent networks and narcotics trafficking in the Malmund area of Helmand.

"The detention of this insurgent and narcotics smuggler, who is closely tied to the North Helmand narcotics smuggling network, will make Helmand province much safer," said U.S. Air Force Col. James Dawkins, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director. "We continue to strive to make Afghanistan free of narcotics."
