KABUL - An Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban commander and facilitator in Paktiya province Saturday.

The commander was linked to an improvised explosive device attack that killed four U.S. soldiers on Highway 1 this week, while the facilitator was also involved in IED attacks.

Acting on intelligence tips, the security force targeted a compound in Lewan in Gardez District, to search for the facilitator. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the
buildings peacefully and then secured the area.

After questioning all the residents, the security force identified and detained the commander, facilitator and two of their associates.

The assault force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children throughout the search.
