KABUL – The International Security Assistance Force confirmed the capture of a Taliban weapons facilitator for attacks in Kandahar City, as well as attacks against coalition force aircraft.
An Afghan and coalition security force captured him during an operation in Kandahar province Friday.
The security force targeted a compound east of the village of Kariz-e Salim in Zharay district, a Taliban hotbed for staging attacks into Kandahar City. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully and then cleared the compounds.
After questioning all the residents, the security force detained the facilitator along with four of his associates.
The assault force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children throughout the search.
