KABUL – An Afghan and coalition security force detained two suspected insurgents in Paktika province Sunday, including a Taliban improvised explosive device operative.

The operative also facilitates and conducts heavy machine gun and small arms fire attacks against coalition force convoys.

Recent reporting led the security force to target a compound in the village of Usman Kala in Sharana district, to search for the individual. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully and then secured the area.

After questioning all the residents, the security force identified and detained the targeted individual and one of his associates.

The assault force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children throughout the search.
