KABUL – An Afghan and coalition security force detained several suspected insurgents in Zabul province Sunday while in pursuit of an improvised explosive device cell leader operating in Qalat district.

The targeted individual facilitates the movement of weapons and supplies, and directs IED attacks on Highway 1, a major route used by civilians.

The security force targeted a compound in remote Qalat district to search for the IED operative. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all the occupants to exit the compounds peacefully and then secured the area.

After initial questioning at the scene, the security force detained the suspected insurgents for further questioning. The security force also found a Taliban code of conduct manual at the scene.

Afghan and coalition forces did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children throughout the search.
