KABUL – Two children were brought to Forward Operating Base Farah for treatment after a improvised explosive device detonated in a bazaar in the Bala Boluk district of Farah province Sunday.

There were several other people wounded in the explosion, which originated from homemade explosives placed under an ice stand.

The two children, age 8 and 12, treated at FOB Farah sustained shrapnel wounds to the body. The other wounded people were treated at a local hospital.

“The kids in this country are innocent bystanders, and it’s a shame that they are continuously taking the brunt of the insurgent attacks,” said U.S. Navy Lt. Gareth Evans, physician assistant for Provincial Reconstruction Team Farah.
