KABUL, Afghanistan - Multiple intelligence sources and tips from locals led to a combined Afghan National Security Force and coalition operation that resulted in the detention of several insurgents in central Helmand province, Sept. 6.
The target of the operation was a Taliban leader who was directly involved with the planning, coordination and conducting attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in Helmand province.

Four insurgents were killed during the operation when they attempted to engage Afghan security and coalition forces.
Afghan security and coalition forces secured and cleared the compound, calling out to each successive building, resulting in the securing and protection of 12 women and 33 children.
Several insurgents were detained during the search, including some that were found hiding among women and children.
