KABUL – The International Security Assistance Force confirmed the capture of a Haqqani Network sub-commander responsible for coordinating improvised explosive device attacks against Afghan civilians and Afghan and coalition forces.

The commander was captured during an Afghan and coalition force operation in Khost province Thursday.

Intelligence tips led the security force to a compound in the village of Shinkay in Khost district. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker calling for all occupants to exit the buildings and then cleared the compounds.

After questioning the residents, the security force detained the commander and three of his associates.

The assault force did not fire their weapons on this operation and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
