KABUL – An Afghan and coalition security force operation resulted in the detention of two suspected insurgents in Farah province Monday.
The operation was launched after an improvised explosive device attack that injured five civilians (three of which were children) in Farah Sunday. The combined force cordoned off the village of Nowaleh, where reports had indicated the presence of an insurgent cell, and arrested two individuals that were suspected in the IED attack.
Twenty 20 kilograms of opium products and a number of components to make IED's were also found during the operation. Initial reports state no civilians were harmed in the operation.
The detainees were handed over to Afghan security forces for processing.
“The cooperation between Afghan and ISAF forces is very efficient and is leading to successful operations aimed at disrupting the IED emplacement and production network in Farah province,” said Italian Army Col. Franco Federici, the commander of International Security Assistance Force Regional Command West’s Task Force South.
