KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan father was killed and his son injured in an improvised explosive device blast in the Arghandab District of Kandahar province Sept. 8.

According to reports, the father was killed when he stepped on the IED. An Afghan civilian brought the wounded child to a nearby coalition facility where he received initial treatment. The child was later evacuated to Kandahar Airfield for further care.

"This is another example of innocent Afghan citizens suffering from the insurgent's indiscriminate use of deadly devices," said U.S. Air Force Col. James Dawkins, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director.
