KABUL - An Afghan and coalition security force detained several suspected insurgents in Zabul province Thursday while in pursuit of a Taliban commander operating in Qalat and Shah Joy
    districts.

The commander directs, facilitates and personally conducts improvised explosive device attacks on Highway 1, a major route used by civilians.

Intelligence led the security force to target a compound outside Gagezi Kalay in Qalat District to search for the commander. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the
buildings peacefully and then secured the compound.

After initial questioning of the residents at the scene, the security force detained eight suspected insurgents for further questioning.

Afghan and coalition forces did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
