KABUL- An Afghan and coalition security force detained several insurgents and Nangarhar province Friday during their continued pursuit of a Taliban improvised explosive device expert who specializes in advanced IED devices.
One insurgent was also killed in the attack after he fired at the security force.
The devices he specializes in are used to create more sophisticated and lethal IEDs than the more common versions. The targeted individual is highly sought by insurgent leadership throughout
Afghanistan for his expertise in developing these weapons.
As the security force approached the targeted compound in Kacharah in Sherzad District, they noticed an armed insurgent move to a tree line near the compound. When the security force attempted to interdict the individual, he fired at them. The assault force returned fire killing him. They found an automatic weapon and a chest rack with
the insurgent.
Simultaneously, Afghan forces conducted a call-out on the targeted compound. The occupants complied and after initial questioning of the residents at the scene, the security force detained four insurgents. The security force discovered IED material including blasting caps at the scene.
The assault force protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
