KABUL - An Afghan and coalition security force detained one suspected insurgent in Logar province Friday while in pursuit of a Taliban facilitator for suicide bombers used against Afghan government officials in Logar and Kabul City.
The facilitator maintains strong connections with the Haqqani Network and regularly participates in cross-border facilitation.
Acting on intelligence information, the security force targeted a compound in Kamalkhel in Pul-e 'Alam District, to search for the facilitator. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully, and then secured the area.
After initial questioning of the residents at the scene, the security force detained one suspected insurgent.
The assault force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
With the Afghan parliamentary elections a week away, Afghan and coalition forces are focused on capturing insurgent leaders facilitating and planning attacks prior to and during the elections.
In Kabul province yesterday, coalition forces killed Nur Mohammad, a senior commander involved in improvised explosive device and suicide attacks in Kabul City, with a precision air strike.
