KABUL- Afghan and coalition forces detained two suspected insurgents in Helmand province Saturday in their continued pursuit of a Taliban commander
The commander profits from the trafficking of weapons, money, equipment, and improvised explosive device components for a Pakistani-based network. The network operates in the Band-e Teymur area of Maiwand District, Kandahar province.
The Taliban commander and his fighters also conduct attacks along Afghanistan's only major commercial highway, Highway 1, which runs through Lashkar Gah and Maiwand districts and is the main route used by civilians.
Intelligence information led the security force to a compound in Lashkar Gah District to search for the commander. Afghan and coalition forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully and then secured the area.
After initial questioning at the scene, the security force detained two suspected insurgents.
The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected a child for the duration of the search.
