KABUL, Afghanistan - Recruits representing a cross section of Afghanistan graduated from the Adraskan NATO training center in Heart, Friday.

The 450 graduates completed a 14-week course taught by Afghan, American, Italian and Polish trainers to become members of the Afghan Civil Order Police. The recruits learned how to shoot, read maps and drive tactically. They also learned anti-riot and check-point techniques and how to identify and counter improvised explosive devices.

"The quality of graduates continues to increase thanks to the rich and diversified training that aims to build elite units that are going to operate in the most sensitive and demanding areas of Afghanistan," said Capt. Alessandro Criscitiello, Italian Carabinieri director of training at the training center.

The Afghan Civil Order Police mission is to provide civil order capability within urban and metropolitan areas and to provide a police patrol presence throughout Afghanistan.

These policemen are specially equipped and trained to deal with advanced police situations to include: urban civil disorder/looting, drug smuggling within Afghanistan, hostage situations and insurrection.

They fall under the command of the Afghan National Police.
