KABUL – Afghan and coalition security forces captured a Haqqani Network sub-commander during an overnight operation in Khost province.
The security force detained several insurgents including the commander, who was in charge of operations in Paktiya province.
Intelligence sources led the combined security force to target a compound south of the village of Kunday in Khost district to search for the commander. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully and then secured the area.
After initial questioning of the residents on scene, the security force identified and detained the commander and two of his associates without incident.
The security force discovered a pistol, grenade, along with multiple bayonets and loaded magazines at the scene.
The assault force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
