KABUL, Afghanistan - Afghan and coalition forces killed three known insurgents during an operation in Wardak province, eastern Afghanistan, Sept. 14.

The insurgents were known manufacturers and facilitators of improvised explosive devices in Wardak province.

Afghan and coalition forces took great care to ensure the safety of Afghan civilians during this operation.

"The removal of these criminals effectively removed a potential threat to the people of Afghanistan, furthering the Kabul expansion," said Lt. Col. Dan Morgan, Regional Command-East chief of operations. "We will continue to work with our Afghan partners to provide a secure environment for the upcoming elections."
