KABUL – Multiple intelligence sources and tips from local citizens led a joint Afghan National Security and coalition force patrol to the location of an insurgent cell that was planning an attack in Kabul, today.
Three men were arrested for planning a rocket-propelled grenade attack during the upcoming elections on the Kabul Military Training Center.
The patrol moved into the targeted compound in Kabul province without incident and detained two men. They tested positive for handling explosives. While they were being questioned by Afghan authorities, the men implicated a local mullah as a co-conspirator. The force moved to the location of the mullah and arrested him as well.
The three men were taken to the local Afghan police station for processing and further questioning.
