KABUL – Afghan and coalition forces detained two suspected insurgents in Kunduz province last night in their continued pursuit of an Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan commander operating in Chahar Darah district.

The commander is well integrated with Taliban senior leadership in Kunduz and maintains contact with Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan leadership in Pakistan.

Intelligence led Afghan and coalition forces to a compound in Kunduz City in search for the commander. Afghan and coalition forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully and then secured the area.

After initial questioning at the scene, the security force detained the suspected insurgents.
The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
