KABUL - Multiple intelligence sources and tips from local citizens led a joint Afghan National Security and coalition force patrol to the location of a wanted insurgent, who then led the force to two other targets, in Kabul Thursday.

The man was wanted for ties to an insurgent logistics network active in Kabul and Parwan provinces.

Acting on an Afghan warrant, the force moved to the target compound and detained the suspected insurgent. In the same compound, the force found five 50 kilogram bags of ammonium nitrate, a common ingredient in home-made explosives. The individual tested positive for handling explosives. Afghan authorities confiscated the explosives.

During questioning, the man helped point the force towards a suspect at a separate location. The patrol moved to the new location and as they prepared to enter the compound, one man ran out of the building attempting to evade the patrol. He was captured and identified as one of the targets. The other target was found during a search of the building.

Also found in the search was one SKS rifle and two vehicles similar to station wagon. Both detainees tested positive for handling explosives.

The detainees were taken by Afghan authorities to a local police station for processing and further questioning.
