KABUL - A combined Afghan and coalition security force detained a suspected insurgent believed to be planning a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device attack near a polling center in the village of Bala Murghab in Badghis province Sept. 17.
Afghan National Police members spotted a suspicious motorbike in the village's bazaar, located near a clinic and a school. The police immediately cordoned off the area as a safety precaution. The motorbike had a container filled with explosives and a laptop battery attached to it.
Coalition forces detained an individual carrying a remote control device and a mobile phone in the vicinity. The force handed the individual over to Afghan authorities for processing.
A coalition explosive ordnance disposal team disposed of the explosive device.
