KABUL- Afghan and coalition security forces killed an insurgent and detained several more in Khost province Friday while in pursuit of a Haqqani Network facilitator and his cell members.

The facilitator and his cell conduct attacks on Afghan security forces and facilitate the movement of weapons and ammunition that threaten the security of the local population.

Based on intelligence reports, the security force targeted a compound north of the village of Guldar in Khost District to search for the facilitator. As the security force arrived on scene, they observed an armed insurgent exit a nearby building and maneuver on the assault force. The assault force engaged and killed the man, who was carrying an automatic weapon, grenade and multiple magazines. The assault force also peacefully detained two individuals, who attempted to run from the target area.

Once the area was secure, Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully and then the combined security force cleared and secured the compound.

After questioning the residents at the scene, the security force detained additional insurgents.

They also found multiple sets of military uniforms, rifles and grenades at the scene.

The security force protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
