KABUL- An International Security Assistance Force vehicle struck and killed a local Afghan woman today while conducting a security patrol in the Alishang District, Laghman province.

Initial reports indicate that the ISAF vehicle struck the woman as she exited her vehicle. The woman's child was also injured in the incident.

The child has been medically evacuated to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition.

    The incident is under investigation.

"We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss and extend our deepest sympathies to the family," said U.S. Army Maj. Mary Constantino, Task Force Bastogne spokeswoman.

ISAF does everything it can to prevent civilian casualties in the course of operations and the safety of Afghan people is very important to coalition forces, according to Constantino.
