KABUL, Afghanistan - Coalition forces conducted a precision air strike on a compound rigged with explosives in Kandahar province this morning.

The house-borne improvised explosive device was discovered during an on-going Afghan and coalition security force deliberate clearing operation aimed at disrupting the Taliban's freedom of movement outside Kandahar City.

After confirming the building was a house-borne IED and ensuring no civilians were present, coalition forces conducted the precision air strike.

"The security force is continuing their effort to disrupt enemy safe havens in Kandahar province, this time targeting an area in Arghandab District, an area plagued with improvised explosive device activity and populated with insurgents," said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torre, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director.

The International Security Assistance Force will provide updates to the operation as they become available.
