KABUL, Afghanistan – The International Security Assistance Force confirmed an Afghan and coalition security force killed Nasruddin, a Taliban sub-commander who operated in Aliabad district, Sunday.
The commander planned and conducted attacks against Afghan civilians and Afghan and coalition forces.
Based on intelligence reports, the security force targeted a compound in the village of Lala Maydan in Aliabad district to search for the commander. As the security force approached, several armed insurgents ran from the targeted building firing at the security force. The assault force reacted by engaging the insurgents from the ground and from coalition aircraft. Five insurgents, including Nasruddin, were killed in the engagement.
After the area was secure, the Afghan forces called for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully and then the combined force cleared the compound. After questioning the residents at the scene, the security force detained two insurgents.
The assault force protected the women and children throughout the search.
