KABUL, Afghanistan - Acting on a tip, an Afghan and coalition security force found and cleared nearly seven kilograms of explosives from a mosque in downtown Kandahar City Sept. 21.
When Afghan National Police officers investigated a call about possible explosives in a downtown Kandahar mosque, they found the explosives hidden in a clock.
ANP and coalition forces cordoned off the surrounding area, removed the clock and safely disposed of the explosive device. No one was injured and no property was damaged during the controlled detonation of the device.
"This demonstrates that the insurgents really do not care about the people of Afghanistan," said U.S. Army Lt. Col. Victor Garcia, deputy commanding officer, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. "This is just another example of their hypocrisy and disregard for human life."
