KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition security forces captured a high-level Taliban facilitator, who planned and coordinated attacks targeting recent elections.
The facilitator, who is associated with foreign fighters, was detained during an Afghan-led operation in Ghazni province overnight.
Intelligence tips led the security force to a compound in Waghaz district to search for the facilitator. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully and then the joint security force cleared and secured the compound.
After conducting initial questioning with the residents at the scene, the security force identified and detained the facilitator. The security force also discovered and destroyed multiple automatic weapons, grenades and magazines along with a shotgun at the scene.
The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
