KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition security forces captured two Taliban facilitators operating in Kandahar City during an overnight operation in Kandahar province.
Intelligence sources identified a series of compounds outside Kandahar City in pursuit of the two Taliban facilitators. The security force first targeted a facilitator, known to distribute military equipment and improvised explosive devices to area Taliban fighters to use in attacks against Afghan government officials and coalition forces.
Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully and then the combined force cleared and secured the compound.
After initial questioning of the residents at the scene, the security force identified and detained the facilitator along with several of his associates.
The security force then targeted a nearby compound in pursuit of the second facilitator, responsible for collecting information relevant to the Taliban information campaign in Kandahar City.
After the Afghan call-out, the joint security force cleared and secured the compound.
After conducting initial questioning with the residents at the scene, the security force identified and detained the facilitator.
The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the searches.
