KABUL, Afghanistan - A confessed insurgent improvised explosive device-facilitator detained this week led Afghan Security and coalition forces to a storage site of IED materials in Kabul today.
The IED facilitator had hidden 27 IED initiators at a friend's house.
The detained insurgent had told his friend that he was going to leave a gym bag at this home and that he didn't want it disturbed. Since the home owner unknowingly stored the IED parts, he was not charged by Afghan authorities.
"We continue to take IED facilitators and components off the street," said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, International Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director.
"Afghans can sleep more secure knowing there will be fewer IEDs in their neighborhoods."
