KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition forces detained several Taliban insurgents in Kandahar province Sunday, including a Taliban improvised explosive device commander who carried out attacks against Afghan government officials and coalition forces in Kandahar City.

Based on intelligence tips, the security force targeted a compound in Arghandab district to search for the commander. Afghan and coalition forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully and then secured the area.

After initial questioning at the scene, the security force identified and detained the commander along with several of his associates.

The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected women and children for the duration of the search.
