KABUL, Afghanistan - Multiple intelligence sources and tips from local civilians led Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance Forces to detain an insurgent leader during a combined operation in Uruzgan province today.
The insurgent was a key leader and facilitator who commanded an insurgent cell that was responsible for the manufacture and emplacement of improvised explosive device in the Mirabad area and who had been trained in Pakistan.
The joint force knocked at the door of the home he was reported to be staying at. They were invited in, and arrested the insurgent leader and another man without incident.
The detainees are being held at an ISAF base for processing and further questioning.
