KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan and coalition security force detained one suspected insurgent in Zabul province Thursday while in pursuit of a Taliban leader who facilitates and conducts improvised explosive device attacks along Highway 1, a heavily travelled highway used by Afghan civilians.

Based on intelligence reports, the security force targeted a compound northeast of Kala in Qalat district.

Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully and then the combined force cleared and secured the compound. After initial questioning at the scene, the security force detained one suspected insurgent.

The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
