KABUL, Afghanistan - During a routine Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance Force patrol in Sangin District, Helmand province, the group engaged one insurgent and detained several suspected insurgents, Friday.

As the forces entered the target area, an insurgent ran at the patrol firing his weapon. He was subsequently killed with precision small-arms fire.

The joint force then moved to the compound from where the insurgent was firing from. After surrounding it, they called-out to the insurgent buildings within the compound. This led to four women and six children being protected. Several suspected insurgents were detained in the operation, one of which is associated with improvised explosive attacks in the area.
