KABUL, Afghanistan - A 10-year-old Afghan boy with shrapnel wounds caused by an insurgent mortar was medically evacuated by Afghan and coalition forces in the Qadis District of Badghis province Oct. 1.

Coalition forces saw several explosions in the vicinity of Darrah-I-Bum village. When the explosions stopped, the boy's uncle brought him to a nearby coalition base.
