KABUL, Afghanistan - A 10-year-old Afghan boy with shrapnel wounds caused by an insurgent mortar was medically evacuated by Afghan and coalition forces in the Qadis District of Badghis province Oct. 1.
Coalition forces saw several explosions in the vicinity of Darrah-I-Bum village. When the explosions stopped, the boy's uncle brought him to a nearby coalition base.
Afghan National Army and coalition medical personnel treated the boy at the base and then medically evacuated him by helicopter to another coalition medical facility for further treatment.
