KABUL, Afghanistan - Afghan and coalition forces detained several suspected insurgents in Zabul province Saturday while in pursuit of a Taliban senior leader involved in the production, planning and execution of improvised explosive device attacks along Highway 1.

Intelligence information led the security force to a series of compounds in Mamu Kalay in Shinkai district to search for the targeted individual.

Afghan and coalition forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully and then secured the area.

After initial questioning at the scene, the security force detained the suspected insurgents. The security force also found and destroyed a large ammunition cache at the scene.

The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
