KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan and coalition security force detained several suspected insurgents in Logar province Saturday while in pursuit of a Taliban senior leader who carries out improvised explosive device, direct fire and indirect fire attacks mainly in Baraki Barak District.
Intelligence tips led the security force to a remote compound in Baraki Barak District to search for the targeted individual.
Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the targeted compound peacefully and then the joint security force cleared and secured the compound, finding a rocket-propelled grenade launcher with seven rounds and an automatic weapon with multiple magazines.
The security force also found and destroyed a significant amount of IED material including detonation cord, blasting caps, pressure plates and initiators, ensuring the material can never be used against the Afghan people.
After initial questioning of the residents at the scene, the security force detained three suspected insurgents. The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
