    Coalition forces investigating civilian death in Kandahar

    KABUL, Afghanistan - A combined Afghan and coalition patrol engaged a suspected insurgent in the Shah Wali Kot District of Kandahar province Saturday, and killed an Afghan adult male and inadvertently killed a child and wounded another adult.

    The incident occurred when the patrol engaged a suspected insurgent who was perceived as about to fire a weapon.

    The wounded civilian was given immediate medical attention and then taken to a coalition forward operating base for further medical treatment. The incident is currently being investigated by a combined team made up of Afghan and coalition members.

    "We deeply regret that our operation resulted in civilian loss of life and we express our sincerest condolences to the families," said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director.
