URUZGAN, Afghanistan - Afghan National Police identified and removed four improvised explosive devices emplaced by insurgents in the Senjed Pass in Uruzgan province Sept. 25.

The IEDs, which were used to target ANP and Coalition force’s resupply convoys, were emplaced along roads leading to the Kalach-Gizab bazaars.

The ANP removed obstacles and man-made blockades in the road along with IEDs. The obstacles were created in an attempt to incite fear in the local populace and to keep Afghans from venturing away from their villages.

While conducting clearing operations, one Afghan was killed and another was wounded when an unidentified IED detonated. The wounded Afghan was medically evacuated to a near-by coalition medical facility. The Afghan that died was taken by vehicle to Gizab.

“We regret the death of the Afghan man and our condolences go out to his family,” said Maj. Paul Oliver, a Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan spokesman. “We hold the insurgents accountable for committing this cowardly act of emplacing IED’s that ultimately led to the wounding and killing of fellow Afghans.”
