KABUL, Afghanistan - International Security Assistance Force confirms the capture of a mid-level Taliban leader who was planning an attack on the Presidential Palace in Kabul and also planned and participated in attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.
Working off intelligence and tips from local civilians, Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance Forces arrested the Taliban leader in a combined operation Sept. 30.
Following intelligence tips, the combined force went to a location where the Taliban leader was expected to be and detained one suspected insurgent. He was taken by Afghan security forces for processing and further questioning.
