KABUL, Afghanistan - Afghan and coalition forces captured the Taliban military and civil commissioner for Nahr-e Saraj District, who was responsible for providing finances and weapons to Taliban fighters, in Helmand province Thursday.

Intelligence tips led the security force to a remote compound in Lashkar Gah District to search for the targeted individual. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully and then the combined force secured the area.

After initial questioning at the scene, the security force identified and detained the targeted individual along with one of his associates.

The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
