KABUL, Afghanistan - The International Security Assistance Force confirmed the death of Mullah Abdul Nafi, a Taliban leader and improvised explosive device facilitator responsible for planning and coordinating attacks throughout the Shah Wali Kot District of Kandahar province.
During a routine route-clearing operation Wednesday in northern Kandahar province, Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance Forces spotted several suspected insurgents and went to investigate.
As the force approached, the suspected insurgents split up and fled into the nearby hills and an encampment. As the combined force attempted to detain the insurgents, the insurgents attempted to shoot the combined force elements, and were subsequently killed, including Mullah Abdul Nafi.
