KABUL, Afghanistan - Gen. David H. Petraeus, commander U.S. Forces - Afghanistan, has requested an investigation into the circumstances which led to the death of U.K. aid worker Linda Norgrove. The investigation was requested immediately following additional information developed by the military commander in charge of the rescue operation conducted by U.S. forces in consultation with the British government.

Initial reports indicated the explosion was caused by a detonation triggered by one of the captors who was in close proximity to Linda Norgrove. Subsequent review of surveillance footage and discussions with members of the rescue team do not conclusively determine the cause of her death.

The U.S. military will fully partner with the British government in this investigation.
