KABUL, Afghanistan - An insurgent-placed improvised explosive device killed three Afghan civilians and seriously wounded a child in Zabul province Monday, Oct. 11.

The wounded child was medically evacuated by coalition forces after the attack, which occurred in the Qalat district.

"IEDs, the insurgent's weapon of choice, continue to indiscriminately kill and injure innocent civilians," said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, ISAF Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director. "Our thoughts and concerns are with the victim's families.

We will work with our Afghan partners to find those responsible for this attack and bring them to justice."
