    Afghan, coalition forces find 1,500kgs of hashish, large weapons caches

    KABUL, Afghanistan - Afghan and coalition forces made three large weapons cache and drug finds in Laghman and Kandahar provinces Oct. 11.

    During a combined mounted patrol, Afghan border police confiscated 400 blocks of plastic explosives, 50 kilograms of ammonium nitrate, 600 blasting caps and 15 rolls of detonating cord found in a truck in the Spin Boldak District of Kandahar province. Coalition forces also found 1,500 kgs of hashish in a civilian truck in Spin Boldak.

    In Laghman province, coalition forces discovered a weapons cache consisting of the following: 25 82 mm rounds, eight 100 mm rounds, six landmines, four 120 mm rounds, three 82 mm mortar rounds, two 92 mm rounds, one 122 mm rocket and one 75 mm round.

    Coalition forces also found a weapons cache in the Panjwa'i District of Kandahar province. The cache consisted of: 17 hand grenades, one anti-tank mine, one anti-personnel mine, one rocket propelled grenade, six RPG boosters, a medium machine gun with two spare barrels and one assault rifle.

    "These finds take weapons and explosives out of the hands of the enemies of Afghanistan," said U.S. Air Force Col. James Dawkins, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director. "We will continue to work with our Afghan partners to find and destroy weapons caches."
